Sheet Series - witness to intimacy

Throughout the course of a marriage or relationship, couples will have a multitude of photos taken of their lives together - in various settings at home, on holiday, with family, friends, or alone, most often clothed, eyes open, staring at the camera, smiling or not, playing to the occasion.  My mixed media drawings of graphite, walnut ink and collage on translucent Yupo paper are based on photographs where I hope to capture a very private moment in a couple’s life - one seldom if ever seen by others.  I pose couples in their most personal of spaces - their own bed.  The embrace, the clasped hands, the suggestion of being unclothed, eyes closed or focusing on the other, all evoke tenderness, love, and a feeling of deep vulnerability and intimacy between two people.   The viewer, as witness to this intimacy, is brought into their immediate world and shares that moment of deeply personal connection
